Our Website Is Live, But Nobody Calls or WhatsApps Us. What Is Going Wrong?

You paid for a website. It looks decent. Your company name, your logo, a few photos of the office or the factory, a contact page. Then the months go by, and the phone does not ring because of it. The WhatsApp messages you do get come from people who already knew you.

This is one of the most common things we hear from business owners in Malaysia. The website exists, but it is not working for the business. The good news is that the reasons are usually simple, and most of them can be fixed without starting from zero.

Quick Answer

Most business websites get no enquiries for a few common reasons: they load slowly on mobile, they do not clearly say what you sell and for whom, there is no easy way to WhatsApp or call, and the pages do not answer the questions customers actually search on Google or ask AI tools. Fix the contact path and the service pages first.

Why Does a Website Get Visitors But No Enquiries?

Look at your website the way a stranger would, on a phone, in a hurry. Within five seconds they want to know three things: what do you do, is it for someone like me, and how do I reach you. If any of those answers is hard to find, they press back and go to the next company in the search results.

The usual culprits we find when we review SME websites:

  • Slow on mobile. Large photos and old themes mean the page takes too long to load on a phone, and most of your visitors are on a phone.
  • One page tries to say everything. All your products and services are squeezed into one "Our Services" page, so nothing is explained properly.
  • No clear next step. The only contact option is a form at the bottom of a page, with no WhatsApp button and no phone number people can tap.
  • Written for the company, not the customer. "We are a leading provider of..." tells the visitor nothing about their problem.
  • Nothing has changed in years. Old projects, old dates and broken links make people wonder if you are still operating.

Is My Website Even Showing Up When Customers Search?

Sometimes the problem is not the website itself. Nobody finds it. If you search for your own service plus your city, for example "stainless steel fabrication Penang" or "accounting system Johor", and your company does not appear on the first page, then only people who already know your name will ever visit.

Search has also changed. Google now shows AI Overviews on many searches, and more people ask tools like ChatGPT or Gemini "which company in Malaysia can do this for me". These tools summarise answers from websites that explain things clearly. A website with one vague paragraph per service gives them very little to work with.

That is why each main service deserves its own page, written around the questions your customers really ask. We explain this in more detail on our SEO, AEO and GEO services page.

What Should Be on a Website That Brings In Enquiries?

AreaWhat it should do
Home pageSay in one sentence what you do and who you do it for
Service pagesOne page per main service, with who it suits, how it works and common questions
ProofReal project photos, customer types you serve, how long you have been operating
ContactA WhatsApp button on every page, a tap-to-call number and a short form
SpeedLoads in a few seconds on a mobile phone
TrackingGoogle Analytics set up so you can see which pages bring enquiries

None of this is fancy. It is simply making it easy for a busy person to understand you and contact you.

Do I Need a New Website, or Can the Current One Be Fixed?

Not every website needs a full redesign. If the structure is sound and you can still log in and update it, adding proper service pages, a WhatsApp button, faster images and basic tracking can make a real difference.

A rebuild makes more sense when the website is built on an old platform nobody can update, it does not work properly on mobile, or every small change needs a developer. In that case it is usually cheaper over time to move to a site your own team can manage.

A simple rule: if you are embarrassed to send the link to a new customer, it is time to look at it seriously.

How Do I Know If the Changes Are Working?

Set a simple baseline before you change anything. Count how many enquiries you get each month from the website, and where they come from. After the changes, watch three things for two or three months: how many people visit your service pages, how many tap the WhatsApp or call button, and how many of those turn into real quotations.

Do not judge by traffic alone. Fifty visits from the right business owners is worth more than five thousand random visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my company website get no enquiries?

The most common reasons are slow loading on mobile, no clear explanation of what you sell and for whom, no WhatsApp or tap-to-call button, and pages that do not answer the questions customers search for. Fixing the contact path and writing one clear page per main service usually helps the most.

How long does it take for website changes to bring more enquiries?

Changes to the contact path, such as adding a WhatsApp button, can help within weeks. Improvements to search visibility usually take three to six months, because Google needs time to find and trust the new pages. Track enquiries monthly so you can see the trend.

Should I redesign my website or just update it?

Update it if the structure is sound and your team can still edit it. Rebuild it if the platform is outdated, it does not work properly on mobile, or every change needs a developer. A review of the current site will show which option costs less over time.

Does my website need to be written for AI tools like ChatGPT?

It needs to be written clearly for people, which also helps AI tools. Pages that state what you do, who it is for, where you operate and answer common questions in plain language are easier for Google and AI tools to understand and summarise. No one can guarantee placement in AI answers.
